Paddle’s published 5% + 50¢ is not a $9 rate

Last checked: 2026-09-22

US fee posts often tape a $9 digital product at Paddle’s headline 5% + 50¢. Paddle’s own pricing page, fetched 22 September 2026, does not confirm that rate on a product under $10. This page restates that pricing page and Paddle’s “Which countries does Paddle charge sales tax or VAT for?” help article. It is not tax, legal, or accounting advice. Recheck paddle.com/pricing and paddle.com/help/sell/tax/which-countries-does-paddle-charge-sales-tax-or-vat-for before you open an account.

The published rate is 5% + 50¢ per checkout

Paddle’s pricing page lists an all-inclusive 5% + 50¢ per Checkout transaction. The same page says there is no monthly fee and no additional cost for managing payments, additional payment methods, migrating subscriptions, and payment-related buyer support. That headline is the published rate for products that are on it.

Products under $10 are custom pricing

The same pricing page repeats: if you are selling products under $10 or require invoicing, contact Paddle for custom pricing, or book a demo for custom pricing. The FAQ “Do you charge a different fee for lower order values?” answers: if you are selling product with under $10 value you can contact Paddle for bespoke pricing. This guide does not invent a take-home on that unpublished rate. A US blog’s $9 tape using 5% + 50¢ is not a confirmed published rate.

Canada tax on the buyer is listed once you are on a published rate

Paddle’s tax help article (last updated 1 August 2025, fetched 22 September 2026) lists Canada by province for the “Standard Digital Goods” tax category. Alberta is 5% federal GST. Ontario is 13% federal HST. Quebec is 9.975% QST plus 5% federal GST. British Columbia is 7% PST plus 5% federal GST. Those rows are Paddle remitting as Merchant of Record on the buyer’s purchase. They do not make the under-$10 custom-pricing rule go away, and they do not answer the CRA small-supplier tests for whether a Canadian seller must register. Recheck the CRA page “When to register for and start charging the GST/HST” (page details 2026-06-16, fetched 22 September 2026).

KeepCAD 2026 maps Paddle’s under-$10 custom-pricing gate against Gumroad, Payhip, Polar, Lemon Squeezy, and Stripe Payment Links. It refuses to invent a Paddle take-home under $10.
